I know that store all too well! I used to really like it, probably because it's the only one within my driving comfort zone and, well, it's better than Wal-Mart. But then came the attack of the obnoxious salespeople. There's one who is absolutely convinced that she knows better than I do what I'm shopping for. I'll tell her what yarn I want, what I'm planning to make, and she'll start redesigning my project and changing my yarn choice. Oh no, you don't want that colour, that style, that gauge. Once she had the nerve to warn me not to bite off more than I could chew. I have had more positive experiences with the owner, but if this other lady is around I tend to walk out without shopping.

Nice to meet you, by the way! You left me a message on Ravelry ages ago and I added you as a friend, but I don't think I ever responded. So...hi from a fellow Mississaugan.

Oh I hope you're all feeling better now. No wonder you've been getting "uppy!" a lot from your toddler. We're all sick here, too, but at least mine are mostly sleeping through the night, so not terribly sick, but moms never get a day off, do they? (Jen - came here from Ravelry)

Aw...sorry to hear you are all sick. My little one started the coughing the other day, and she is prone to having simple little coughs turn in to so much more, so I am really hoping I can catch this in time.

As for the side note, I wondered this myself last year while dealing with a chest infection in my daughter, and I am fairly certain that the corporate world believes if you are up at that hour, and not making whoopie, the problem lies in the size of your unit. Whether this theory is right or not, I am not sure, but that is my story, and I am sticking with it.

Hope you get better soon, darling...all of you (p.s. have you tried putting a pillow under the sheets of your daughter's bed, so that she is slightly elevated? it helps a little with my little one...well, that and a pound and a half of vick's vapo-rub)

sorry it took me so long to reply- my whole house is terribly sick with evil kiddy germs.

I think I managed to find yarn once at zellers, but it was novelty yarn, and left ugly tuffs of pink all over my house. The Zellers near me doesn't sell yarn any more. I always keep my eyes open!

yes, I understand that "big girl pride!" That's the best! If only we could tape our work to the fridge, and get people to tell us how proud they are of it!

I hear you on all accounts, darling. I also am a single mom...and some days are WAY worse than others.

One place that I have found that is wonderful for picking up cheap yarn that is still good enough to use is Zellers. (You can pick up enough yarn to make a whole sweater for about $8.00, depending on the size you are looking at.) Also, a lot of the second hand stores (ValuVillage, Sally Ann, etc.) have miscellaneous yarn back with their curtains and such.

Please don't take the suggestions above as an insult in any manner at all...I am only suggesting them as I know that I find knitting to be very therapeutic, and often keeps my hands entirely too busy for me to throttle someone. Plus, I get a stupid "I'm a big girl" pride when I complete a project. Which is not something that I get over much of (the feeling, not the completing of a project).
